Microsoft software to empower over 25,000 employees in 40 government departments; agreement gives Dubai government the 100% legal status

Dubai, July 30, 2002 – H.H. The Ruler’s Court has signed an agreement with Microsoft to provide the best of breed technology solutions to enhance better productivity and collaboration among more than 25,000 employees within 40 government departments. The announcement is the latest step in Dubai’s ambitious eGovernment drive, simultaneously ensuring 100% legal status for all software used within the government, Dubai’s primary advocate and enforcer of IPR laws.

“It is critical for governments to structure themselves effectively to serve their country better. This is especially inevitable for the Government of Dubai as it emerges as one of the leading business hubs in the regional economy,” commented Dr. Khalifa Mohammed Ahmed, Director General, Government of Dubai, H.H. the Ruler's Court.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to support the Dubai government's efforts in deploying completely licensed software. We believe that governments are exemplary in trend-setting and their endorsement of intellectual property rights is key to the development of a vibrant IT industry and a stronger national economy,” said Mr. Abdullatif Almulla, Manager, Microsoft Middle East - South Gulf Region.

“The Government of Dubai is investing in enhancing its efficiency in order to provide well-integrated and efficient services to businesses and citizens. A significant investment has been to create a strong technology backbone to support all our business processes and we believe that we will benefit in terms of increased productivity, better collaboration, tighter integration and faster time to market by Microsoft’s software,” said Thani Al Zaffin, Director, Department of Government Information Resources Planning, Government of Dubai, H.H. the Ruler's Court.

The state-of-the-art technologies being deployed at the Dubai Ruler’s Court are designed to give individual users within the departments the ability to readily access and organize information, and to achieve this, Microsoft Core Servers and Office Automation Products will be the platform.

“Our relationship with H.H. the Ruler’s Court dates back to more than 6 years when we first provided them with software solutions. Since then, we have been working closely to deliver on H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision for an effective eGovernment and we look forward to taking this relationship to new heights”, said Mr. Abdullatif Almulla.
